Synopsis of presentation:
- Malcolm Champlain started a 20 minute video presentation.
- Malcolm asked how people imported data into Microstation.
- A case history, using an ODOT example, was used to show how scanning was used for calculating earth volumes.
- Ryan (who had setup the laser scanning previous to the meeting) began to scan the rear portion of the room.
- Scan generated a "point cloud" which was shown on a laptop display, in real time, as the laser acquired data
- Standard survey proceedures can be used to "tie-down" information gathered from scanning to a common coordinate system.
- DTM's can be generated from scanned information.
- Scanned data has been used to acquire information about: piping, equipment, excavation and ground surfaces.
- There are many modules that work with Microstation and Autocad, but software from Cyra, creator of Cloudworks, a Microstation MDL used to convert scanned data to surfaces/solids, was demostrated.
- Further information can be found at: Pacific Survey Supply.
