Meeting Minutes:
(Doug Persson, Chairman of OSWCU opened the first meeting of 2002 at 5:30 P.M. on February 20, 2002.)
Doug introduced himself and John Volk who holds the Vice Chairman position.
Doug invited the 13 meeting attendees to introduce themselves.
Doug announced that the door prize for the meeting was a laptop holder/ bookbag donated by
Bentley. (Craig Peterson was the lucky person to win the prize at the end of the meeting.)
Doug passed out the OSWCU membership questionnaire and encouraged everyone to complete the form so we will be able to better assess meeting times and dates
Doug announced where we were with OSWCU and what we hope to do by years end. To
summarize the meeting events:
- Doug presented Board member positions which still need to be filled. We are still in need of a Secretary, Treasurer, and a Web Master. He went on to briefly describe each position and ask that if any of the members were interested to let him or John know.
- Doug discussed the tentative meeting dates for the remainder of the year. He informed the group that they were located on the website. He also discussed the change of the website address and that Bentley was now hosting it. The web site will be the central communication point for up to date information on OSWCU. He went on to say that information such as job postings, unique files for download and expert forums can certainly be placed on the site. He encouraged everyone in attendance to submit ideas and / or tips so they can be posted on the website.
- John interjected the importance of the attendance of members from larger offices such as Ch2M or David Evans. He explained that they have a great deal of cad users and can provide OSWCU with a great deal of resource. John also conveyed our importance as a group. He feels it is important to send a message to Bentley that there is a large population of Microstation users right here in the Portland Metro Area. This may in turn help establish Microstation support companies such as Cordax locally.
- John introduced the guest speaker which was Steve Couture from Technology Enhancement Services, Inc.
Steve gave a presentation on a product that his company provides. In a nut shell his program involves creating databases and linking to Microstation 3D files. His presentation did generate some lively discussion about 3D in general.
